It’s Lady’s very first birthday today! She got a new $100 dollar bed from Daddy that is both waterproof and antibacterial. He also bought her a $9 baked pork skin twist bone which she equally enjoys gnawing on and playing with. I still have to get her a present . Here’s a video of her receiving her birthday presents from Daddy.

Want cheap giant rawhide and mammoth sized baked pork skin treats? Try Petsmart. They are having after holiday sales on Christmas themed chew treats that will make any large breed dog with a penchant for chewing jump for joy! The 75% off markdowns are such a deal I snagged two large bagfuls! Hurry though because they only have a limited supply left. Usually rawhide and pork skin treats are quite expensive so at the normal price I would have spent about $40-$50. Instead, I made out like a bandit with everything amounting to just a little over $12! Lady seems to enjoy the variety of flavors I got her including peanut butter, chicken, and even peppermint! Usually she finishes the smaller fist-sized rawhides in no time but thankfully since these are so ridiculously super-sized, she’s kept busy chewing for hours. If anything, I think she’s frustrated that she can’t destroy them as quickly as she’s used to. Like with all toys and chews, you should definitely supervise your dog in case of any choking hazards but so far Lady has never had any problems with this. Remember to always provide plenty of fresh water along with these treats. Also, if you’re introducing any new edible chews or food to your dog you should do so slowly because they may get an upset stomach if given too much too fast. I tried to find a link online for these marked down treats but I think it’s only available in store but here are some pictures of them for reference.

Lady started her VERY FIRST heat about two and a half weeks ago. We had been waiting for this moment for a very long time since I had no idea when she would start hers. According to my vet dogs can start anywhere from 6-11 months. Lady finally had hers on the 11th month. I tried Googling what female dogs privates would look like in heat so I would have an idea of when it would actually start before she began bleeding. With Lady, it was VERY obvious because her “radish” as we affectionately call her female part, swelled up to the size of a turnip. It was extremely noticeable to the point that it quickly began protruding outwards towards her tail area. Of course at this point we began scrambling to get her some diapers but Lady did not like the idea very much and took it upon herself to take them off when we weren’t looking. I used regular baby diapers instead of dog ones because she has a cropped tail and the hole for the tail tends to slip all the way down and expose her “radish” which negates the whole idea of having it on in the first place. Luckily, I have wood floors so when she leaks it doesn’t do any damage to my house. I actually thought that the volume of blood would be a lot more because she’s such a big dog but it’s actually more like quarter to dime sized dribbles once in awhile that are easily removed with a Swiffer Sweeper every now and then. Thank God for Swiffer and inside house slippers!!! Aside from her obvious physical indicators, Lady was much more MOODY especially at the start of her heat. She usually doesn’t bother crying to us unless she’s in her crate and bored so it was surprising to us when she was in our room with us whining up a storm! She would pace back and forth and look at us whining non-stop for an hour or two at a time. I read somewhere that dogs can actually even get depressed from being in heat so we were especially concerned and much more considerate at this time towards her feelings. I guess it’s not just women that get grumpy and moody during their menstrual periods . Other than that though, I didn’t really see much of a change in Lady’s behavior like some others have noted with their dogs such as being destructive or suddenly marking urine in the house when they had never done that before. I guess I should consider myself very lucky! As of today I believe Lady is done or close to done with her menstruation period so I’m worry free for another 6 months or so!! WHooHoo!!!

Mark and I just wanted to share our HUGE bundle of joy, Lady, with the world through our website and hope you visit as often as possible! You can’t get enough of LadyBaby! We will post often about how she’s doing, what trouble she is currently getting into, and how we deal with her daily stubbornness….or at least how we tolerate it. We will also be posting about various issues we had to deal with when she was a puppy and hopefully it will help those that are struggling with their new dobie pups because for us…..boy was it ROUGH for awhile. Along with all her Dennis the Menace moments, we will of course share our more tender and endearing moments of her through pictures and videos. Also, please share your stories about your dobie, pooch, or beloved animal buddy by commenting on our posts.
